North America
Wild vines were plentiful on the East Coast when early European settlers arrived and pleasing wines were made from them. Missionaries brought cultivars from Spain and planted vines in New Mexico in 1692 and California in 1769. These are the stories of some of the people who continue the tradition of viticulture and wine in North America today.
