Remember What We Know
“Sometimes we forget to remember what we know, that a cricket defines the symphony of night, laughter lightens the weight of day, the curve of a shell holds a canyon of history and a silent moon moves the sea.” Author and friend Chiori Santiago and I conceived that message many years ago for a collaborative holiday greeting about believing in possibility.
The message is as true as it ever was, because taking the time to contemplate the little things in life can reveal possibility and so much more. Those moments are powerful reminders of what is important, of how much we forget to notice in every day and of how good it feels to recognize the force of nature that flows through us all.
Joseph Campbell said he believes we are seeking "an experience of being alive, so that our life experiences on the purely physical plane will have resonances with our own innermost being … so that we actually feel the rapture of being alive.” So swirl a glass of wine, inhale its aromas and allow its flavors to reveal impressions of its source. Surrender to the intuitive and remember what you know.
