The concept of listening to wine is not such a strange idea. Virtual reality is becoming less science fiction and more reality all the time. So, as you sip a glass of wine, why not imagine a kind of hologram personality formed from what you know and what you sense? Then let the wine talk with you as if it were alive.

Think of the experience of getting to know wine like online dating. First you find a few possibilities you want to get to know better. You ask questions to learn a little more, and when you find one of interest, you set up a date and let the things you learned in words take form in what you sense sitting before you.

Wine is like that. All you have to do is ask the right questions about its life has been like. Simple things like where are you from? Were you well cared for? Did you grow up basking in the heat of the sun or swaddled in cool ocean breezes? The more deeply you inquire, the better your connection will become. When you finally get together with your wine, try not to objectify it. Instead, treat it like a living, breathing entity. If you listen… the wine is talking. It speaks in the language of the senses. And, if you like its story, you will remember it and want to get together again.
